ON CONSIDERATIONS SUGGESTIVE OF FURTHER INQUIRY UPON A SUBJECT OF GRAVE NATIONAL AND INTER- NATIONAL IMPORTANCE.
Posted by free clickbank productMost of us are familiar with certain facts of the teetotal
controversy. We, who oppose wine, beer, and spirits as
drinks^ do not set ourselves against pleasure in drinking,
as such ; but we deprecate that form of pleasure which is
bought too dearly; which is liable to cause what is worse
than pain, namely, demoralisation. So too it is a suffi-
cient reason for dissuading the pleasure of flesh-meat, if
it deprive men of higher and nobler pleasures : for. in-
stance, if it deprive men of cultivation, leisure, and refine-
ment, by keeping them poor. Such an argument cannot
justly be set aside by appealing to the palate.
Yet, in a highly-respected London weekly paper of no
small literary pretensions, a leading article, some years
back, condemned Vegetarianism on grounds which con-
fess a mean sensuality. It vehemently declared that
flesh-meat is not necessary to strength or health, and
treated those as blameably ignorant who were surprized at the muscular strength and endurance of vegetarians.
But it went on to say that the main question is, whether,
in a world which has so few pleasures, it is worth while
to give up the pleasure which flesh-meat affords to the
palate. The reader's first thought might be, * Is the
editor sarcastic, and intending bitterly to show contempt
for flesh-eaters?' I fear that this interpretation is in-
admissible, and that we must take his utterance seriously.
It is a sad parallel to the wine-lover, with whom *I
like my wine ' is a sufficient reply to every possible ob-
jection.
However, we remind such a wine-drinker that tastes
change ; that wine is not the only nice drink ; that many
who once loved wine have now ceased to hanker for it ;
and that it is quite degrading to overrule moral argu-
ments by an appeal to the palate. All this applies to
Vegetarianism. First of all, we observe that no one re-
gards raiv flesh as nice ; it has to be cooked : and scarcely
any flesh, even after cookery, is nice, without vegetable
additions, as condiments or sauce. The number of
vegetable flavours is too many to count. The savoury
herbs used to dress flesh need no definite mention ; they
often impart to a dish its familiar flavour, which we are
apt to ascribe to the fibre of the animal. Even pork and
ham have their characteristic tastes from the sugar, the
sage and onion, the apple sauce, the mustard or vinegar.
I have known a person fancy he was eating roast veal,
when a compost similar to the usual stuffing of roast veal
was given him. Boiled mutton dressed like boiled pork
will puzzle many, and deceive some. Hare is a peculiarly
high-tasted flesh, yet the stuffing and the red-currant
jelly have much to do with its niceness. There is no end
of things delicious to the palate.
Building Your Site
I regularly receive email from people asking how they can gel started in making money with AdSense. I'm always happy to help people make the most of Google, but many of these people didn't even have a website!
Here's the bad news: to make money with AdSense, you've got to have a website. There's no getting around that. The good news though is that it's never been easier to create a website from scratch and use it to generate real revenue.
I'm going to give a brief introduction here to creating a website from the ground up. You can find plenty more information online and I'll tell you where to look. A good place to start is my own book How To Build Profitable Websites Fast, available at www.BuitdAWebsireFast.com.
Profitable Websites Fast, available at www:BuiltlAWebsiteFast.com.
If you already have a site up and running, you can just skip this bit, head down to 1.10 and begin reading about how to improve your AdScnse revenues.
Naming Your Site
The first thing your site will need is a name. That's easier said than done these days. All (he best words in the dictionary have cither already been bought and built by developers or they've been bought and offered by speculators. But that doesn't mean you can't create a good name and buy it for a song. Putting two words together with a hyphen can work and there arc plenty of good names available if you're prepared to move outside the world of .corns into .net and .biz etc.
Your first stop should be www.NctworkSoluiions.com. This is a nuts and bolts service thai lets you hunt and buy names, order hosting plans and even submit your site to the search engines. When you're looking for a name, you can just toss in ten options and the site will tell you which (if any) arc available. Find a good one, and you can cither buy it there or pick it up at www.godaddy.com (they can be a bit cheaper). All in. buying a name from one of these services won't cost you more than about $5 a year.
If you can't find a name you like and that hasn't already been grabbed, you can take a look at sites like moderndomains.com and bestnames.net. These are companies that buy domain names and sell them for a profit. There's a good chance you'll some good names here but they can cost you anywhere from S50 to S50. Before you part with a penny, think about the advantage that a good name can bring and ask yourself if you can't get the extra traffic a cheaper way. Often, you can.
Choosing A Hosting Service
Your site is going to be stored on a hosting company's server. (You didn't want thousands of people dialing into your computer every hour. did you?) Again, there are lots of different options available depending on how much you want to pay and what you need.
In general, you'll want to make sure that you have about 50 megabytes of space (that's enough for 100 pages!), full statistics reporting and most importantly. 24 hour service. If your site goes down, you'll be losing money every hour it's offline. If there's a problem with the server, you want to make sure it's fixed right away.
You gel what you pay for with Web hosting from "free" services that will cost you more than you save to $2(X) a month for dedicated servers. Twenty bucks a month is a reasonable price to pay and GoDaddy.com and NctworkSolulions.com both offer good programs.
Designing The Site
It used to be said that absolutely anyone could create a website. That was true; absolutely anyone who knew HTML. Today, you don't even need to know that. Programs like Microsoft's FrontPage or NVU (which is free; you can download it at www.nvu.com) let you create sites without needing to know your tags from your tables. If you can use Word, you can create a website.
You can either have Fun playing with the programs and designing the site yourself or you can hire a professional designer to do it for you.
Freelance sites like www.elance.com and www.euru.com are good places to advertise. You can invite designers to give you quotes and pick the best based on price and talent. Be sure to check feedback and port¬folios though; a low bid is often low for a good reason.
Creating Content
In Chapter 9, I talk in detail about building content and optimizing what you write to attract traffic and maximize your AdSense revenues. There are all sorts of ways to do that but for the moment just bear in mind that the ads that appear on your site will depend on the content on your pages. That's how AdSense works: users click on the ads because they're relevant.
And that's why it's not worth putting up a site just to cash in on particular keywords. Google doesn't like it and neither do users. If your site doesn't genuinely interest your visitors, you'll find IL hard to get traffic, links and clicks on your ads.
But there are still a lot of different ways to create content very easily that improves your income. I'll tell you all about them .
It's also worth remembering that Google doesn't place ads on particular types sites, so if you're thinking of building a casino site stuffed with AdSense ads. you can forget about it; it's not going to happen.
Search Engine Optimization
Of course, once you're up, people have to know you're there. One of the most important ways to do that is get yourself a high-ranking in a search engine.
There are lots of different search engines, but only three are really important: Google, Yahoo! and MSN. I'll talk in more detail about improving your search engine rankings.
If you want to take a shortcut, there are plenty of companies which will make the submissions for you and they'll even optimize your site lo get you as high on the rankings as possible. will make the submissions for you and they’ll even optimize your site to get you as high on the rankings as possible.
Your search engine ranking will depend on a number factors. One those factors is the number of sites that link to yours. As far as Google is concerned if lots of sites about model railways link to your model railway site that must be a pretty good sign that people who like model railways think your site is good. So they’ll want to other it to people who search for model railways. bringing you lots of free traffic. Once you’ve got your site up and running you’ll want to persuade other sites to give you links. You could offer to exchange links and you an even set up a page that contains recommended links so that you`ll have somewhere to put them. There`s a range of other strategies and services that you can use.
The objective is to make your blog successful as a source of advertising revenue, as a way to gain some exposure for yourself, as a way to state your case, or as a combination of all three.. So, fortune rather than fame is the primary focus of this book. You can employ these 10 steps to help make your blog a roaring success:
1.Code access. Ensure the platform allows access to the code so you can place items in the order you choose. Otherwise, you may not be able to rearrange the things on your Wog pages the way that you want them.
2.Keyword research. Do your keyword research to select the best keywords to use to integrate into your blog titles, your blog name, article titles, and so on.
3.Categories and keywords. Edit your categories to integrate keywords into URLs.
4.Linking to other Hogs. Add links to other blogs. A few related blogs is more than adequate, but make sure they are useful to your readers and that those links are trustworthy. Trust is a big issue for people using the Internet.
5.Importance of blog directory submissions. Get your blog into the top blog directories; you want the links from those directories back to your blog. This is very important because it will give your blog better visibility. People can find you more easily.
6.Regular directory submissions. Submit to the usual directories, including Google, Yahoo, and DMOZ.org. This is especially important if your blog is also your Web site.
7.Blog posting length. A blog is an entity into which you make entries (post your written articles). Each entry or article is called a post, a posting, or an article. Try for post lengths of at least 200 words, and integrate selected keywords near
the top of the post. The keyword should be related to the title and is used by search engines to help understand the focus
of the article.
8.Moderating your blog. Be alert for comment spam. Moderate all comments and delete those containing useless links, those that arc off topic, any adult-related items, or anything that might offend your readers.
9.Clean URLs. Use clean URLs if the option is given. A clean URL hides many of the operators and coding characters. Clean URLs are easier for a search engine spider to crawl and index into its related search engine automatically.
10.Frequency of new blog postings. Make frequent postings. Although it is not Search Engine Optimization (SEO) per se, frequent posts will keep the spiders coming back to see what's new. This will help to keep fresh content flowing into search engine indexes from your domain.
